Excerpted from “Tailoring a Paleo Diet & Targeted Supplements for Women’s Health”
Women have unique needs and a one-size-fits-all Paleo diet often falls short. Topics in this talk include intermittent fasting, oxytocin, low carb diets, and specific strategies at hormonal balance for pre-, peri-, and post-menopausal women. Filmed live at Paleo f(x) Austin.

DESCRIPTION: The deleterious effects of a Paleolithic diet appear to undermine the positive effects of a Crossfit-based high-intensity circuit training exercise program.
I touched on paleo diets before in Paleolithic Lessons (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/paleolithic-lessons/), and I featured a guest blog on the subject: Will The Real Paleo Diet Please Stand Up? (http://nutritionfacts.org/2014/09/23/will-the-real-paleo-diet-please-stand-up/)
I wrote a book on low carb diets (now available free full-text online http://www.atkinsexposed.org/) and touched on it in Atkins Diet: Trouble Keeping It Up (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/atkins-diet-trouble-keeping-it-up/) and Low Carb Diets and Coronary Blood Flow (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/low-carb-diets-and-coronary-blood-flow/).
And if you’re thinking, yeah, but what about the size of the cholesterol, small and dense or large and fluffy? Please see my video Does Cholesterol Size Matter? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/does-cholesterol-size-matter/)
Have a question for Dr. Greger about this video? Leave it in the comment section at http://nutritionfacts.org/video/paleo-diets-may-negate-benefits-of-exercise/ and he’ll try to answer it!
Khabir Southwick presents a compelling case against living without some form of animal protein in the diet or eating only uncooked food.
Ayurveda does not advocate any specific diet as individual digestive systems, nutritional needs and health needs are unique. Khabir explains why many “new” diets including the raw food diet do not support healthy digestion thus degrade the absorption of nutrients of time. In other words, it is not so much what you eat but what you can digest.
According to Khabir, it’s one thing to become a vegetarian after a childhood of being an omnivore or to recover from a chronic health condition, but it is another issue to completely stop all dairy such as ghee (clarified butter without the animal protein) and [homemade] yogurt with naturally occurring bacteria (known to assisting in digestion and overall health particularly immunity). Ayurveda, completely supports the use of dairy products for the healthy person and it would be seen as nutritionally insufficient to raise a child without any dairy. Khabir highly recommends pregnant women, underweight people and growing children to indulge daily in warm raw milk and organic healthy dairy products such as homemade yogurt.
In fact, there is no civilization in the history of the world that has thrived eating only uncooked foods. Khabir’s implies that the “raw diet” is only possible in today’s modern world with a tremendous selection of worldwide foods available and superfoods like blue-green algae that were not available to previous generations.
This diet while useful for periods of time for the right people seems to be an overreaction to typical meating eating, over cooked western diet.
Dr. Weill as a similar understanding based on his own experience:

TED Fellow Christina Warinner is an expert on ancient diets. So how much of the diet phad the “Paleo Diet” is based on an actual Paleolithic diet? The answer is not really any of it.
Dr. Christina Warinner has excavated around the world, from the Maya jungles of Belize to the Himalayan mountains of Nepal, and she is pioneering the biomolecular investigation of archaeological dental calculus (tartar) to study long-term trends in human health and diet. She is a 2012 TED Fellow, and her work has been featured in Wired UK, the Observer, CNN.com, Der Freitag, and Sveriges TV. She obtained her Ph.D. from Harvard University in 2010, specializing in ancient DNA analysis and paleodietary reconstruction.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Hippocrates, father of medicine, 431 B.C.
Cultures throughout history have reported on the healing properties of food. On this panel, topics will include:
How far can healthy food take us?
Will it help with specific chronic diseases?
Is a ketogenic or a higher proportion of fruit and vegetables, the best way forward?
