Yep, we are all human – we all have a sweet tooth – So the next time you get the urge to reach for something sweet, grab one of these healthy snacks to help fuel your day without sabotaging your goals fitness…

1:05 – 5.) FROZEN GRAPES
When you’re hankering for a little something sweet, put some fruit on ice. “Frozen grapes are a simple way to crush midday sugar cravings,” says trainer and bikini competitor Samantha Leete.
“When frozen, they’re firm but still have that slushy consistency that makes them easy to bite into.” Think of these little guys as diet-approved mini ice pops. Simply place whole grapes in a small container or baggie and freeze for 4-5 hours

2:05 – 4.) CELERY AND PEANUT BUTTER
Bring this adult version of ants on a log to the office as a good-for-you snack that holds you over until dinner. In addition to being nostalgic, the classic pairing of celery and peanut butter contains a number of essential nutrients including vitamin E, folate, magnesium, and potassium.

3:00 – 3.) GREEK YOGURT
Creamy, protein-rich Greek yogurt makes a healthy, filling snack any time of day. To sidestep the added sugars that can blow your diet, ditch anything with artificial flavors. Remember, fat-free doesn’t necessarily mean healthy.
Be careful when you are in the yogurt section to avoid any “fruit at the bottom” choices as they are PACKED with sugar… Stick to the plan, non-fat greek yogurts and add your own toppings like flax or chia seeds

3:45 – 2.) DIY TRAIL MIX
Grab raw or roasted peanuts, almonds, natural dark chocolate nibs and dried fruits of your choice (cran raisins with no sugar added are great) and snack on this protein packed, healthy fat mix

4:45 – 1.) SUGAR FREE INSTANT PROTEIN PUDDING
Simply grab a couple boxed of the sugar free instant Jell-O pudding mix, whip up the pudding as directed and then add 2 to 3 scoops of chocolate whey protein powder in it and enjoy a serving right before bed!

What Does Sugar Actually Do To Your Body?

The effects of sugar can take your body down a vicious cycle known as metabolic syndrome. UC Davis’ Kimber Stanhope altered the diets of a group of volunteers for her study. Instead of her subjects eating food like rice, pasta or bread, she had them consume a sugary beverage. The effects on the body started in the liver and from there Stanhope explains how that set off a chain of responses in the body.

The Truth About Sugar – New BBC Documentary 2015 – Sugar is the big bad wolf of the diet world, but not that many of us know quite how to quit it or, in fact, what the downsides to a sugary diet actually are.

The Truth About Sugar documentary, aired on BBC One aimed to demystify some of the myths about sugar – namely, what food products secretly contain it – and demonstrate the impact it can make on your health if you reduce the amount you eat.

It charted the lives of Cara Patterson, Rick Shabilla, Audrey Cannon and Simon Gallagher, who consumed nearly 119 teaspoons of sugar between them a day. Three of them lost nearly six kilograms each after implementing a low-sugar diet, but Shabilla unfortunately decided to replace his Indian sweets habit with lager and was not as successful.

Journalist Fiona Phillips is on a mission to find out the truth behind the recent headlines on sugar. She discovers why some of us have more of a sweet tooth than others, which sugars you can enjoy guilt-free, why there is so much sugar hidden in food you would think was purely savoury and what effect sugary drinks have on the appetite. Fiona also helps four Brits, whose sugar-heavy diets could be putting their health at risk, to change their ways. From coming up with low-sugar recipes to finding ways to beat the sweet cravings, they will see whether cutting back to the levels suggested by health authorities is really achievable and what the benefits actually are. As the dieters progress on their journey, it soon becomes clear that the transformations will be dramatic.
