5 High-Fat Foods That Are Actually Super Healthy

Studies now show that fat, including saturated fat, is not the devil that it was made out to be. In this video we’re looking at 5 high-fat foods that are actually incredibly healthy and nutritious.

1. Nuts

Nuts are not only rich in healthy fats, but also high in fiber and a good plant-based source of protein.

In this instance nuts refers to tree nuts, like almonds, cashews, walnuts and more. As opposed to peanuts, which are actually legumes that grow in the ground, although they’re really healthy too.

Nuts are generally also high in vitamin E, as well as magnesium, a mineral that is reportedly the second most common deficiency in the developed world after vitamin d.

Studies show those who eat nuts tend to be healthier, and have a lower risk of various diseases. This includes heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

And despite being high in calories, those who eat them the most appear to be the leanest and at lower risk of obesity in the long-term.

2. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

This is a high-fat (or pure fat) food that almost everyone agrees is healthy.

It’s an essential component of the Mediterranean diet, which has been shown to have numerous health benefits in large studies.

EVOO contains good amounts of vitamins E and K, and is loaded with antioxidants that fight inflammation and help protect LDL particles in the blood from becoming oxidized.

It has also been shown to lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol markers and have numerous other benefits related to heart disease risk.

3. Avocados

The avocado is different from most other fruits, in that instead of primarily containing carbs, avocados are loaded with fats.

Avocados are about 77% fat, by calories, making them even higher in fat than most animal foods.

The main fatty acid is a monounsaturated fat called oleic acid, which is the predominant one in olive oil as well. It’s associated with various health benefits.

They’re also among the best sources of potassium in the diet and a great source of fiber too.

And even though they are high in fat and calories, one study found that people who eat avocados tend to weigh less and have less belly fat than those who don’t.

4. Whole Eggs

Whole eggs used to be considered unhealthy because the yolks are high in cholesterol and fat.

However, new studies have shown that cholesterol in eggs doesn’t affect the cholesterol in the blood, at least not in the majority of people.

What we’re left with is a high-fat food loaded with vitamins and minerals. In fact, eggs contain a little bit of almost every single nutrient we need most of which is in the yolk.

They even contain powerful antioxidants that protect the eyes, and lots of choline, a brain nutrient that 90% of people don’t get enough of.

Eggs can also be considered a weight loss friendly food because of their protein content.

Studies have shown that people who replace a grain-based breakfast with eggs end up eating fewer calories and losing weight.

5. Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is one of those rare health foods that actually taste incredible.

But it is very high in fat, accounting for around 65% of calories.

The reason it’s so healthy is because dark chocolate is 11% fiber and contains over 50% of the RDA for iron, magnesium, copper and manganese.

It’s also loaded with antioxidants, so much that it is one of the highest scoring foods tested, even outranking blueberries in one study.

There are studies linking dark chocolate consumption to a wide spectrum of health benefits, but the most notable is heart health.

Research shows those who eat dark chocolate 5 or more times per week are less than half as likely to die from heart disease, compared to people who don’t eat dark chocolate.

These healthy high fat foods are really just the tip of the iceberg.
There’s many others like cheese, fatty fish and full-fat yogurt that can really contribute to a healthy diet.

Healthy Super foods You Must Include In Your Kids Diet

The kids of today can be simply referred to as the fast food generation. They have easy access to all the food and yet not all the nutrition. Unlike adults, kids have different nutritional needs that help develop their immunity and growth. To ensure that your child get all the right kinds of nutrients, add these must-have superfoods to his or her diet.

Eggs
High in protein and B vitamins, eggs are beneficial during a kids growth years. Try cooking eggs in different ways; scrambled, boiled or fried, so your kid doesn’t get bored of eating them. Try to add them in different recipes so you can add them to meals as often as possible.

Milk
Milk is a good source of calcium, vitamin D and phosphorous which is vital for the development of bones and teeth. Apart from that, milk also contains other essential nutrients like protein, zinc, vitamin A, B2 and B12. If your children don’t like milk, try giving them other milk based foods like custard or milkshakes.

Beans
Beans also make for a health food as they are high in proteins, calcium, fibre and antioxidants. Beans are also low in fat, calories and sodium. Including beans in your kid’s regular diet will ensure they get the right amount of energy and nutrients. Beans like garbanzo beans, soybeans, dried peas, lentils etc. are very healthy.

Sweet potatoes
High in beta carotene, vitamin A, C and E, fibre, calcium and iron, sweet potatoes are one of the most healthiest vegetables. What’s best is that this vegetable is a delight to ones taste buds too. You can try boiling, baking or even grilling them to make a healthy yet tasty snack. If your kid is fond of French fries, replace regular potato with sweet potato to make a healthier version of it.

Fish
Fish is known for its omega-3 fat content which can boost brain development in children and improve their eyesight. Include fishes like salmon and tuna to your kid’s diet regularly.

Ingredients:
Oats: 1/2 cup
Wheat flour: 1 cup
Ragi: 1/2 cup
Himalayan salt: 1/2 tsp
Italian seasonings: 1 tsp plus extra 1/2 tsp for garnish
Warm water: 3/4 tsp, add little by little.
Instant yeast: 1 tsp
coconut sugar: 3/4 tsp, or jaggery (gur)
desi ghee: 1 tsp

Toppings:
Paneer/cottage cheese: 20-25 gm
desi ghee: 1/4 tsp
Green chutney: 1 tbsp
Chopped capsicum and onion: 2 tbsp
A sprinkle of red chilly flakes
homemade curd: 2 tbsp or as needed.

You can have this as a filling meal, replace one meal with this and lose weight fast.
You can top with vegetables of your choice, like cooked mushrooms, grated carrots etc.
You can make this weight loss pizza base and store in fridge.

Low in calories, they offer antioxidant phytonutrients called anthocyanidins, which enhance the effects of vitamin C. These antioxidants may help prevent cataracts, glaucoma, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, peptic ulcers, heart disease and cancer.

3: Tomatoes

Tomatoes help us fight against heart disease and cancers such as colorectal, prostate, breast, endometrial, lung, and cancer of the pancreas. Tomatoes are also good sources of vitamin C, A, and K. In a 2004 study, it was found that tomato juice alone can help reduce blood clotting.

Fresh, organic tomatoes deliver three times as much of the cancer-fighting carotenoid lycopene. Even organic ketchup is better for you than regular ketchup! Look for tomato pastes and sauces that contain the whole tomato (including peels) because you will absorb 75% more lycopene and almost two times the amount of beta-carotene.

4: Sweet Potatoes

As an excellent source of vitamin A, C, and manganese, sweet potatoes are also a good source of copper, dietary fiber, vitamin B6, potassium and iron. Those who are smokers or prone to second- hand smoke may benefit greatly from this root vegetable that helps protect us against emphysema.

For a unique dessert, cube a cooked sweet potato and slice a banana. Then lightly pour maple syrup over the top and add a dash or two of cinnamon. Add chopped walnuts for an even healthier kick.

5: Spinach and Kale

A cancer-fighter and cardio-helper, spinach and kale top the list as far as green leafy vegetables are concerned. Much like broccoli, they provide an excellent source of vitamin A and C. Kale is a surprisingly good source of calcium at 25% per cup, boiled. Vitamin K is abundantly found in spinach as well, with almost 200% of the Daily Value available, to help reduce bone loss.

Whether it’s bread or pasta, the first thing to check for when purchasing whole grain bread and pasta is to make sure it is 100% whole grain. Remember to check the list of ingredients on the package.
