Dying at under 40 years of age with fossil records showing high levels os heart disease! The modern construct of this so-called "Paleo diet", however, if taken in the best manner, eleminates all processed foods, processed oils and dairy, minimises agriculturally developed foods such as grains and legumes (very small amounts that could be gathered in a grassy field are probably OK), and favours fresh fruits and vegetables, a few nuts and seeds, along with minimal grass feed meat and wild sustainably caught fish. If you are vegan you can easily sustain a well balanced diet by simply eliminating the meat and fish. This way of living is replicated in the "Blue Zones". These are areas of population where there is an unusually high percentage of people that live well past 100 years of age. I'll write more about Blue Zones soon - there is a lot to learn! Taken the wrong way, where the caveman was a man because he hunted big game, and lived on meat, meat and more meat, will give you similar health outcomes to the typical savanna living paleo man - not good!

DON'T FALL FOR THE KETO DIET HYPE! You will never see me promote a low carb or no carb diet on this page. As a trained Naturopath and practicing Natural Hygienist there is nothing that makes sense, physiologiclly, in cutting carbs in favour of protein or fat. For a quick snippet here are 20 RISK FACTORS for following a ketogenic diet: 1. Nutrient Deficiency: Restricting certain food groups can lead to deficiencies in essential vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C, magnesium, and potassium. 2. Increased LDL Cholesterol Levels: While the ketogenic diet can improve HDL (good) cholesterol levels, it can also raise LDL (bad) cholesterol levels in some individuals. Elevated LDL cholesterol is a risk factor for heart disease, which can pose a significant health risk, particularly for those with pre-existing heart conditions or a family history of heart disease. 3. Digestive Issues: The lack of fiber-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and grains can lead to constipation and other digestive problems. 4. Heart Health Concerns: High intake of saturated fats from animal products can increase cholesterol levels and potentially raise the risk of heart disease. 5. Bone Health: A low-carb diet can lead to a decrease in bone mineral density, increasing the risk of fractures. Part of this problem is losing bone calcium to buffer increased acidosis. 6. Kidney Stones: The increased intake of animal proteins can raise the risk of developing kidney stones. Our bodies only keep a limited amount of free amino acids, the rest is broken down to uric acid for elimination via the kidneys. 8. Mental Health: Some individuals report experiencing mood swings, anxiety, and depression while on a ketogenic diet. Others experience euphoria, which can be an interpretation of these mood swings. 9. Hypoglycemia: People with diabetes or insulin resistance might experience dangerously low blood sugar levels. The cause of insulin resistance is lipidosis of the muscle cells which blocks the effect of insulin. 10. Increased Risk of Chronic Diseases: Long-term adherence to the diet may increase the risk of certain chronic diseases due to the high intake of saturated fats and limited nutrient diversity. 11. Muscle Loss: Without sufficient carbohydrates, the body will break down muscle tissue for energy. The body favours this avenue to the breakdown of fats into glycogen. 12. My position is that any weight loss associated with this diet is due to increased stress on the body, even illness. It IS NOT a healthy diet to lose weight on!
